Name: Baillee
Age: 4 years
Color: Red
Coat:
Longhair
Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Micro Mini – 8 lbs.
Baillee found stray and taken to the Camarillo shelter by a Good Samaritan.
Her owner was contacted several times, but they refused to come down to
the shelter and pick her up. When
our volunteer went to the Camarillo shelter to rescue a smooth black dachshund
boy, he spied this little girl covering in the back of a run with two much
bigger dogs on either side of her hogging the spotlight, barking and scaring the
bajeebers out of her. He asked the
shelter worker to bring the little girl out to the exercise yard so he could get
a better look at her and a feel for her personality.
It was Baillee’s lucky day.
Almost immediately, she jumped into our volunteer’s lap and licked his chin; it
was a done deal. Baillee came home
with him along with the black doxie.
Baillee is a very small, beautiful longhaired doxie mix.
We have no idea what her heritage is, but she is 95% dachshund.
Her fur is soft and silky, and she loves
to be brushed. She gets along great with
the other dogs in her foster home.
She’s crate trained, house trained, and uses the doggy door reliably.
She wants to sleep in the big bed, but will settle for a dog bed on the
floor next to the bed. She’s a good
little eater, plays with tiny squeaky toys, and wants her belly rubbed at every
opportunity.
If you are interested in Baillee, please contact George at gcaufield@roadrunner.com or call (818) 292-1471. An adoption application is required.
The tax-deductible donation for Baillee is $200.00.

This dog is being fostered in the S.F. Bay Area
Name: Otto
Age: 14 months
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie - 15
lbs.
Otto is a young dog with a big, very happy personality. He's a handsome,
friendly, smart and playful - the original party animal.
If there's fun to be had, Otto wants to
be part of it. Otto was relinquished to
Dachshund Rescue by his owner who could no longer care for him.
Otto’ s friendly, outgoing personality
is a testament to the love and attention he received from his former family.
He's a real sweetheart.
Otto is very friendly to new people (including kids!) and dogs and is very
adaptable to new situations. When he was introduced to the other Dachshunds in
his foster home, he seemed to be saying, "Well, here I am -let's get this party
started!" He also loves to sit on your
lap and get snuggles and belly rubs.
Otto can 'sit' and 'stay' on command, and walks okay on a leash.
Otto's enthusiasm for his walks leads
him to pull on the leash, but this can be easily corrected with training.
He loves to go for rides in the car.
His previous owner has described Otto as
being curious about cats and that he approaches them to see if they'll play with
him. We don't know how Otto might behave
with cats in the home, but we think he might be workable.
Otto is house-trained, neutered and up to date on his shots. Otto is looking for a forever home and family who are looking for a Dachshund with his brand of love, enthusiasm, joie de vie and fun.
If you are interested in
Otto, please contact
Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check
and adoption application
are required.
The tax deductible
donation for Otto is $300.00.

Name: Bucky
Age: 15 months
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 13
lbs.
Bucky was found playing with some neighborhood children. No one knew where
he came from. The area families started feeding him, and one family let
him sleep in their garage.
Meanwhile, the neighbors had him scanned for a microchip, they made posters,
and they placed found dog ads. No one ever responded.
After a few weeks, they contacted rescue and asked us to find him a home.
We can’t imagine why Bucky’s original family didn’t look for him. He is a
fantastic dachshund! He’s great with all people and with children.
He’s doing wonderfully with all of the dachshunds in his foster home.
He has no desire to be the top dog and is happy to go along with the pack.
Bucky is young so he will need daily exercise.
A home with kids is fine with him. He’s
now neutered, vaccinated, and crate trained.
The tax deductible
donation for Bucky is $300.00.

Name: Bently
Age: 18 months
Color:
Red Dapple
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 14
lbs.
Bentley came to us a stray from central California.
He was a very shy boy in the shelter but
he has blossomed in foster care. He’s a
lovely red dapple boy with one brown eye and one blue eye.
Bentley is a favorite playmate with the other dogs in his foster home.
He is very tolerant of all the other
dogs, even when they behave badly. Like
all our dogs, Bentley needs daily exercise.
Bentley greets people very nicely and very much wants to make a connection.
We believe he could do well in a home
with respectful, older children. We
don’t know how he feels about cats.
Bentley is crate trained, micro chipped, neutered, and vaccinated.
The tax deductible

This dog is being fostered in the S.F. Bay Area
Name: Diego
Age: 6 years
Color:
Black & Tan
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Diego came to us from San Jose Animal Care and Control.
He was not a happy camper at the
shelter, so rescue was called to take him.
He was thrilled to get out of there!
Diego is living with a pack of dogs (all bigger than him) and is doing well with
them. He also greets human visitors
very nicely. His biggest issue is that
he likes to “head bang” (pushing his head into your face).
We are working on correcting this
behavior. Diego is getting better
as he gets less worried about getting attention.
Like all of our dogs, Diego loves going for walks.
He often waits hopefully at the door and
tries to convince you to take him by giving you the wiggle butt move.
Diego has been reluctantly crate trained. (He really feels he belongs in the big bed). We’ve had him neutered and vaccinated. He’d like a home that could get him out daily. He could happily have a canine sibling. We don’t know how he is with cats but he’s smaller than most of them.

Name: Clyde |
Name:
Bonnie Ages: 8 years Color: Red Coat: Smooth Sex: Female/Spayed Size: Mini – 11 lbs. |
Bonnie and Clyde are littermates.
Originally, their names were Chulo and Chula which means “handsome” and
“pretty”. We rescued them from the
These are very sweet, mischievous doxies.
Each one is a joy to hold and cuddle.
They give wonderful kisses. They
are crate trained, and their house training is about 90%.
Given access to outside with a dog door, these two adorable doxies will
go outside to potty most of the time.
They need a family willing to continue to take them outside on a schedule
so they don’t backslide. They need a
home with a back yard. They are not
apartment/condo dogs.
They were adopted April 2009 and had a fantastic loving home until
the owner became seriously ill and could no longer give them the love and
attention they deserve. They are very sad little dogs having lost their person,
but returned to their original foster home and have settled back in immediately.
Applicants must have previous dachshund experience and be willing to
adopt both of these littermates together.
They are not good prospects to be left alone all day.
Actually, they can be escape artists and require a very secure home and
yard. Bonnie can dig under a
stockade or chain-link fence easily.
Clyde thinks baby-gates are for sissies and can climb one in nothing flat.
They cannot be left to their own devices very long unless you know for
certain there is no way they can get out into the street.
They are safe with children over 8 years old. We don’t know if they are safe with cats, but most cats are bigger than they are anyway. They both have had dental cleaning, been fully vaccinated, and have been microchipped.
Do you have room in your heart and home for both of these sweet babies? If you can give Bonnie and Clyde an excellent home, please contact Dawn via email at dawnaa@pacbell.net or call (714) 961-0114. They are a bonded pair and we will not separate them. An adoption application is required.
The tax deductible donation for Bonnie and Clyde is $300.00 for both.

Name:
Jody |
Name:
Annie |
Jody and Annie’s elderly owner passed away, leaving no provision for the support
and care of her devoted dachshunds.
Family members were unable to take them in.
They were left alone in the empty house for a couple of days with friends
and neighbors stopping by to give them food, water, and to pick up after them.
Finally, the executor of the estate contacted SCDR and we took Jody and
Annie under our protection. They
were very grateful to arrive at their new foster home.
Both Jody and Annie are easy going, sweet doxies. They are not aggressive at all
and get along fine with the other doxie in their foster home.
There is still a lot of life and energy
in these two. They like to run
around and play with the resident 3-year old doxie.
They love to be held and love to cuddle on the couch while the family
watches television or reads. They
are happy to nap on the big bed, on the sofa, or in a plush dog bed on the
living room floor.
Jody and Annie
love going for walks, and they are good in the car.
They appear to be house trained and know
how to use the doggie door reliably. They
seem to be fine with anyone who has come into the house and would make a
wonderful addition to some lucky family. They are a bonded pair, and we will not
separate them. They are safe with
children over 5 years old. We have
no idea how they feel about cats or other small critters.

Name: Coney Island Joe
Age: 13 months
Color: Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Skinny Mini – 11 lbs.
Coney’s previous owners left him on the porch of their apartment and moved out, leaving him abandoned there until a neighbor rescued him and brought him to us. We named him “Coney” because he can spring into the air like a jack rabbit. (Conejo is the word for rabbit in Spanish). We are trying to discourage this behavior, so he doesn’t develop back issues later on in life.
Coney was a pretty shy guy when we first met him, and his manners weren't the best. It is obvious that he has never been trained, except for dog-door and potty training. He does VERY WELL at these two skills. No accidents in the house so far. He is learning to be crate trained as well, sleeping in his crate at night without a fuss.
Coney will need a family that is patient, yet firm; someone who can set
boundaries and enforce them. Coney tends to want to set the rules, but he
realizes now that he has boundaries and he's adjusting very well to them.
He is still getting used to household noises and can be a bit vocal when
he doesn't get what he wants, but again, patience and training will be the key
with this young man. He also tends
to nip (playfully) and that will need to be corrected.
He doesn't nip hard, but it can be intimidating if you aren't used to it.
His foster family is working on that right now.
Coney is very cute, but he is not for everyone.
We are looking for someone with strong dachshund experience, patience, a
loving home, and little more patience.
He is a great, energetic, playful little guy with a "red doxie" attitude
and personality. Again, not for
everyone, but he will be VERY loyal to his forever family.
He loves being with people and he loves chasing the ball.
He just wants attention all the time.
Technically, he is still a puppy and that makes him very trainable.
Coney’s vaccines are up-to-date and he has been neutered and microchipped.
In our opinion, he is a diamond in the rough.
If you are interested in Coney, please

This dog is being fostered in the
S.F. Bay Area
Name:
Nacho
Age:
18
months
Color: Red Sable
Coat: Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 13 lbs.
Nacho lived his life as a yard dog. Fortunately for him, his owner decided to
get rid of him and dropped him off at the shelter.
A local rescue representative advocated
for him and we found him foster space.
Nacho is an incredibly sweet dog. He loves all people including children of all
ages. He really wants to connect with
his people and to please them. n fact,
he's so people focused it's almost impossible to take his side view picture.
Nacho's like a compass - always turning
to face you head on.
He gets along well with other dogs, and he has learned to love going for walks
(a new experience for him). He came to us very thin and he still needs to put on
a little bit of weight.
Nacho arrived with a "tweaked" back, nothing really serious, but we took it as a
warning. Nacho recovered very quickly
with meds and a few days of crate-rest. His new home needs to be all on one
level, with just a step or two that could be easily ramped.
Nacho needs to be taught not to jump off
furniture, but to "wait" to be placed on the floor by his family member.
Nacho should no longer go up and down a flight of stairs so no upstairs
apartments without an elevator, and no two story homes. (These rules are
actually appropriate for any dachshund.)
Nacho wants a home where he is part of the family.
He wants to have a warm dog bed and to
be able to sleep inside with his people. He
would enjoy having a playful canine companion. We
don't know how he is with cats.
Nacho is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
If you are interested in Nacho, please contact
Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check
and adoption application
are required.
The
tax-deductible donation for Nacho is

Revised

Name: Baby-Mama
Age: 5 years
Color: Black & Tan
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Mini – 12 lbs.
Mama’s owner was diagnosed with terminal cancer and unexpectedly ended up in the E.R. a few weeks later. The next day, when she was finally able to use the telephone, she contacted Rescue and arranged for our volunteer to go to her apartment and rescue her darling, little “Mama” who had been locked in the apartment all alone for over 24 hours. Having no idea how long she would be in the hospital and how long she could effectively take care of her precious baby, the lady asked us to find Mama a new forever home. It is our pleasure to do so.
Mama is a shy little “Southern Belle” who believes she needs to be a pampered
princess. She’s had one a litter of
puppies at a very young age, hence her name.
She does fine with the other dogs in her foster home, but does not
socialize with them much, preferring to be the consummate “lap dog”, following
her foster mom around from room to room hoping she’ll sit down so Mama can creep
into her lap for some lovings. She
enjoys belly rubs once you have earned her trust.
She is much more comfortable being a “woman’s dog” than being with a man.
Right now Mama is still a bit skittish and could be a “runner” if spooked, so
her new family needs to be very mindful of that fact when she goes home with
them. Other than that, she is a
very cute little sweetie-pie, pumpkin girl.
She walks well on a leash and loves to go for rides in the car.
We feel she would do best in a home with women.
Older mindful children would be fine, but no babies, toddlers, or
pre-teens.
Mama is reliably house trained and dog door savvy.
She would be ok with a mellow male dachshund for companionship, but she
would really prefer to be the center of the universe, an “only dog” princess, to
be fawned over and spoiled absolutely rotten to the core.
Mama’s vaccinations are all up-to-date, she’s been spayed, and she’s had a
dental cleaning. We have no idea if
he is safe with cats. Again, no
young children, but gentle teens would be fine.
She would be fine in a downstairs apartment or condo that has a fenced in
patio.
Only true dachshund worshippers need apply. If you are interested in Mama, please contact Dena via email or call (562) 694-6868. A home check and adoption application are required.
The tax-deductible donation for Mama is $200.00.

Name: Cricket
Age: 6 months
Color: Black & Tan
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Micro Mini - 6 lbs.
We know that a lot of our shelter dogs have had hard lives based on their
appearance and their behavior. Thankfully, we don't often know the shocking
details about their past like we do with Cricket.
In early July, as workers at an East Bay construction site were getting off
work, they looked out the window and saw a car toss a box onto the property and
speed off. Since the behavior was
suspicious, they went to look. The box
was a small one and was tightly taped up. It
was a very hot day but there were no air holes. The workers opened it carefully
not knowing what to expect. To their
shock, they found a severely emaciated puppy.
They put out a frantic call to rescue for help.
Now, fast-forward two months and we are proud to introduce Cricket!
We believe he is a black and tan
dachshund and chihuahua mix. He still
needs to gain a pound or two, but he's now raring to go.
Cricket lives his life to the fullest! This
boy is stuffed with joy and a zest for living. He
loves everybody and everything. He has
an obsession with balls, so unfortunately, we can't let him have any at home.
If you want to take a dog to the park to
chase balls, he'd be great. However, at
home his nonstop demands to play ball get old fast.
This little guy would also most likely excel at any sport that requires focus.
He could do agility or even Flyball.
If you like to jog or take long walks
and want a small companion, he's the boy for you.
Cricket has no trouble greeting new people and new dogs.
Kids are fine with him.
He wants an active home that continues to show him that life is good.
If you are interested in Cricket, please contact Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check and
adoption application
are required.

Name: Barney
Age: 3 years
Color: Red Piebald
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Standard - 21 lbs.
Barney has been well taken care of and loved his whole life.
Unfortunately, his mom is very sick so
he had to come to rescue.
Barney is an incredibly sweet dog. He is
young, so he likes to play with other dogs and he goes crazy if he sees his
leash (he loves his walks!). He is a
little shy in new situations, but we are working on getting him exposed to more
so that he gets more confident.
Because we have history on Barney, we also know some of his special skills. One
of them is singing along to “Happy Birthday”. His foster mom now calls people on
their birthdays and she and Barney sing duets over the phone.
He may not win “American
Idol”, but he never forgets the lyrics.
We are told that Barney will dance, but only to "She's a Maniac".
So far, he's been reluctant to show us. He's either worried the other
dogs will make fun of him or he's saving it for the next "So
You Think You Can Dance" try-out.
Although Barney weighs about 21 lbs, he should be more like 18.
We are working on helping him achieve
this goal. Barney is thrilled with
the exercise portion of his weight loss regime (the walks) and doesn't seem to
object to the reduced rations.
Barney would like a frisky doxie playmate and a home where he gets out and about
every day. A stay at home parent would be icing on the cake.
If you are interested in Barney, please contact Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check and
adoption application

Name: Mikey |
Name: Millie |
These doxies are being fostered in the S.F. Bay Area.
These two little darlings were picked up as strays in Central California.
Unfortunately, they had ringworm, which
is an automatic death-sentence, as it requires weeks of isolation in order to
treat and cure. Lucky for them, an
advocate found them a place to stay, in a controlled environment, while being
treated. They are now healthy and ready
for their new home.
Mikey had the more serious case of ringworm and is still working on getting his
ears pretty again. He is the alpha dog
so being a yard dog and then isolated was hardest on him.
When he came into foster care, he was
too scared to be touched and would give warning snaps.
(He was very careful to only snap, not
bite.) His fear was overcome with treats
(he's very food motivated) and letting him cuddle on the big bed.
In only three weeks, he's become a much
more confident and, therefore, much friendlier to strangers. He recently went to
a wiener race and he loved all the dogs and crowds.
His tail was wagging the whole time.
Millie has always been the cuddler of the pair.
She requires no “get to know you” time.
During the time when we couldn't handle Mikey, we'd just take Millie and
he would follow.
Both Mikey and Millie adore their walks. Their
new home should continue these as it is excellent socialization.
They also love to cuddle with their
person on the big bed or on the sofa.
They need a home with older kids or no kids.
They are crate trained and doing
wonderfully on their housebreaking.
Millie and Mikey are a bonded pair and we will not separate them.
If you are interested in Millie and
Mikey, please fill out an
application

Name:
Jonah |
We rescued Toby and Jonah several years ago.
They were both adopted by a wonderful gentleman who has been lovingly
devoted to both of them. But the
economy cost him his livelihood and his home; and he now finds himself forced to
move to another city with limited pet-friendly, affordable housing.
As promised, we took Toby and Jonah back into rescue to find another
loving home.
Jonah is a wonderful dachshund with soft silky fur and sweet disposition.
Toby is a dachshund/corgi mix with a short, but very lush cream coat and
a delightful personality. Both boys
were recently vaccinated and received full dental treatments.
Their teeth are all bright and shiny again.
They are both microchipped.
Their picture does not do them justice.
They are extremely nice looking doxies.
Toby and Jonah are very sweet and well-behaved.
Each one is a joy to hold and cuddle.
They give wonderful kisses. They are crate trained, and their house
training has been impeccable. They
need a home with a yard and a dog door.
Or they could be apartment/ condo dogs if there is a dog door with access
to a fenced patio (not a balcony).
They love going for walks and enjoy going on adventures in the car.
Applicants do not need to have previous dachshund or corgi experience, but must be willing to adopt both of these boys together. They are fine for working families as they are quiet and well behaved while their people are away from home. They are safe with children over 8 years old. We don’t know if they are safe with cats.
Do you have room in your heart and home for both of these sweet refugees? If you can give Toby and Jonah an excellent home, please contact Dena via email or call (562) 694-6868. They are a bonded pair and we will not separate them. An adoption application is required.
The
tax-deductible donation for Toby & Jonah is

Name: Jack |
Name:
Jill |
These puppies are being fostered in Orange County.
These two adorable little pups were born about May 1, 2010, to a dachshund
mother and min-pin father. At ten
weeks old, they were taken to the Kern County Shelter when their owners failed
to find a home for them before they had to move out of their rental property.
Their loss was our gain.
Jack did have a serious eye infection, but after a brief stay at the vet, all is
well.
Jack and Jill are eating kibble just like their big foster brothers and sisters.
They have had their first vaccines and of course will need to continue them for
about 3 months. The little siblings currently weigh 2 to 2.5 pounds, and are
still very small. They are allowed to go out in the back yard with the other
foster dogs. They love to romp around
the in this safe, enclosed area. They are so innocent and love to look at
everything they see, every leaf, flower, bug, etc.
Like little human toddlers, they want to
put everything in their mouths and chew it! They
have learned to run and chase each other, play tug of war with a stuffed toy,
roll a ball around, and just explore everywhere.
They are also learning proper dog etiquette from their foster siblings,
who range in age from one year to 19 years old.
Jack and Jill are learning their names, and most often, at least look at you
when you call them. They sleep in their
kennel for hours at a time, and if they are taken outside within a short time
after they wake up, they will potty outside, not in the kennel.
They are also fed in their
kennel.
They are learning the being in their kennel is a good, safe place and
that delicious food is given them.
They have truly blossomed since they have been with us.
They are now ready for adoption. They would love to be adopted together as Jack
cries piteously if Jill is taken out of his site.
(She spent a week at the vet with Jack when he needed eye treatment.
There was nothing wrong with her; she just kept Jack company.)

New! Foster Home Needed

|
Name: Cleo |
Name: Cooper |
Cleo and Cooper’s owner moved out of their home in the dead of night, abandoning
Cleo and Cooper down the street in a neighbor’s back yard.
Thinking that perhaps the dogs had gotten lost, the neighbor walked the
dogs back to their home, but to his shock and dismay found the house totally
empty. Efforts to locate the people
failed. So after a few weeks of
futile searching, the neighbor contacted Rescue and we took Cleo and Cooper
under our protection.
Cleo and Cooper are crate trained, house trained, and quiet.
They spend their days following each other around, cuddling, and napping
together. They are good eaters and
have put on a little weight since arriving at their foster home.
They were extremely thin and several health issues needed to be
addressed. After a week’s stay at
the vet both dogs were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, had thorough dental
treatments, and given microchips.
They are very loving little doxies.
They are so grateful for every kindness and return the love given them ten-fold.
Both of them required extensive dental repairs.
Poor Cooper lost a lot of his teeth, but still has his two lower canines,
one of which sticks out over his upper lip.
We call it his “snaggle tooth”.
It also makes him look like he is smiling all the time.
He has no trouble eating small bites kibble.
Applicants must be willing to adopt both of these sweet seniors together.
After twelve years together, there is no way we are going separate them.
They would be fine to live in a condo with a small yard or patio where
they could bask in the sun and go potty if necessary.
They walk well on a leash and seem to enjoy riding in the car.
They’d be great RV dogs.
Nothing bothers them and we don’t see why they wouldn’t get along with
dog-friendly cats. Gentle children
over 8 years old would be fine too.
If you can provide a good home for Cleo and Cooper, please
contact Dena via
email
or
call
(562) 694-6868.
An adoption application is
required.
The adoption fee for Cleo and Cooper is a modest tax-deductible donation to

Name:
Jane (a.k.a.
Noodle)
Age: 18 months
Color: Black & Tan Double Dapple
Coat: Longhair
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size: Standard –20 lbs.
If dogs could talk, Jane would have quite a story to tell.
She was found stray.
The people who found her kept her for
about two months while they tried in vain to find her real owners.
No one answered their ads in the newspapers or responded to the many
flyers posted around town. Most
likely, Jane was “dropped off in the country” in hopes that someone local would
take her in. But after two months,
they just couldn’t afford to keep her any longer, so they turned her into the
Clovis Animal Shelter in Central California.
We were thrilled to take Jane into our rescue program.
Jane was subsequently adopted by a wonderful family and was the ideal dog.
They truly love her and have given her the nickname, “Noodle”.
But fortunes have a way of changing lately.
Her new family lost their home, and they
have been forced to move to an apartment with no yard or dog door.
Jane is very unhappy. She
loves to run, chase squirrels, and play fetch with a ball; all of which has come
to an abrupt halt. Her once stay at
home mom, now has had to go back to work, so opportunities for long hikes and
trips to the dog park are few and far between.
Jane loves to go hiking and exploring.
Jane is great with kids over 5 years old.
She is not so great with men until she gets to know them.
She has also decided that she’d rather chase cats than make friends with
them. She has proven herself to be
an excellent guard dog; defending hearth and home against those notorious
invaders known as Postal Delivery Persons and UPS Truck Drivers.
She is also on guard against gardeners and meter readers.
Jane loves to spend time outdoors with
the other dogs in her family. She
thinks baby gates are for sissies; she can jump over the baby gate like it is
just a minor inconvenience. She loves to
go for walks, but still needs to learn not to pull so much.
Jane is totally house trained and dog door savvy.
Not having a dog door and free access to the yard has been hard on her.
Jane would like a family with children over 5 years old and another
active dog for play and companionship.
Previous experience with a longhaired dachshund is not essential, but she
will require regular brushing and periodic professional grooming to look her
absolute best. She presently sleeps
in the big bed with her people and would enjoy continuing to do so in her new
home.
If
you are interested in Jane, please contact Dena via email
or call (562)
694-6868. An
adoption
application is required.
The
tax-deductible
donation for Jane is $300.00.

Name: McNulty
Age:
6 years
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male-Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 16 lbs.
McNulty was found wandering the streets in Central California in 2008.
The nice folks at the Kings County Shelter contacted us and we agreed to
take McNulty into rescue. We could
not believe someone did not come to claim this dog.
He is gorgeous.
Subsequently, McNulty was adopted by a very nice couple in Los Angeles.
He has been with them, and two other dachshunds, for the past year and a
half. But McNulty is not happy.
He prefers the company of men and he really doesn’t want to share his
daddy with the other family members.
So, with heavy hearts, the couple has asked us to find McNulty a more
suitable home.
McNulty is crate trained, house trained, and dog-door savvy.
A typical day for McNulty includes burrowing in his favorite comforter,
sprinting after rubber balls, wagging his tail feverishly, and managing his
stuffed animal collection. He loves
going for walks, and can’t wait to gallop alongside his person on each new
adventure. Afterwards, he often
takes a long nap with one or two of his prized stuffed animals.
McNulty loves to be picked up and cuddled.
He enjoys napping in an available lap while his person reads, watches
television or works on the computer.
He wants to sleep in the big bed under the covers, but will settle for a
comforter in a roomy crate if he has to.
Ideally, McNulty needs to live in an all male household.
He is just ok with women, but he wants little to do with them.
He is safe with teenage children over 14 years old, no little kids,
babies or toddlers. He does not
like cats or other small furry creatures.
McNulty is fully vaccinated, healthy, and microchipped.
Any man who adopts McNulty is going to be very happy.
He is a one-in-a-million dachshund.
The
tax-deductible donation
for McNulty is $200.00.

Name:
Chad
Chad was picked up stray on the streets of Bakersfield.
(There seems to be a major problem of stray dogs in this city for some
reason.) His people never showed up
to claim him, so we jumped at the chance to rescue a longhaired, English cream
dachshund. We could not believe our
good fortune to have gotten this exceptionately handsome and rare boy.
Chad is absolutely delightful. He is
extremely affectionate and playful.
He loves playing “fetch” with his fuzzy sock toy and always wants to sit on your
lap to have his ears scratched.
What a sweet personality. He is
very lively and "puppy-like" in his antics!!
Chad actually appears to be no more than about 7-8 yrs. old, though
shelter personnel estimated him to be about 10.
How they determined that is anybody’s guess.
He has no gray hair on his muzzle or paws.
Chad is getting a refresher course in house training and is improving every day. As time passes after his neuter, he is trying to “mark” in inappropriate place less and less. He loves going for walks and enjoys car rides – looking out the window and smiling as he always does. Chad is fully vaccinated, recently neutered, and has had a complete dental. He lost a few to dental decay, but he still has many left and they are now "pearly white".
Whoever adopts Chad will be
getting a real "winner!" He'd make a
wonderful family pet who will give his new family lots of joy, love, and
devotion for years to come! We don’t know
if he is safe around cats at this time.
However, this fantastic guy is so easy to fall in love with!!

This dog is being fostered in the
S.F. Bay Area
Name:
Sam
Age:
2.5
years
Color: Black & Tan
Coat: Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 14 lbs.
Sam has been through two previous homes. He is now foster care and he's not even
three years old. His first owner was a
teenager who was not very nice to Sam; nor were his owner's friends.
Poor Sam was teased and tormented.
In addition, this owner did not get Sam
out and about for socialization. This
left Sam a very insecure dog.
Sam then was re-homed to a first time dog owner family. Sam needed firmer
leadership than he got here so he came into rescue.
Sam has absolutely thrived in his foster home. Having firm and consistent
guidelines has done wonders for his confidence. He's also been getting terrific
socialization including going camping and on beach outings.
Sam has enjoyed frolicking with other dogs, both big and small. He likes to give
small children kisses but is more apprehensive about older children. (Based on
how he was treated in his first home, this isn't a surprise).
Sam is a very smart boy. He comes when called and knows how to sit and stay on
command.
Sam would like a new home that gets him out and about every day and even better,
has a doxie sibling for him. This would give him someone to play with to help
burn off his energy and help him feel more confident in new situations.
If he is left alone during the day, he will need a home that makes sure he gets
lots of attention at the end of the day.
Sam is neutered, vaccinated, crate trained and housebroken. He's a wonderful boy
that is hoping he can finally get the home he deserves.
If you are interested in Sam, please contact
Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check and
adoption application
are required.
The
tax-deductible donation for Sam is $250.00.

Name:
Astro
Age: 10 years
Color: Black
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie – 14 lbs.
Astro is a senior dachshund mix.
When we were notified that the he was scheduled for euthanasia and no
other rescue group stepped forward, we sent our volunteer to the East Valley
shelter to save him. Boy, are we
glad we did. Astro is a very sweet
dog. He’s a gentleman who was
obviously somebody’s special dog. We
don’t know why he was turned in at the shelter, but he was a favorite of the
shelter volunteers.
Astro is crate trained, seems to be house trained, and loves to go
for leisurely walks. He enjoys
exploring the back yard and takes long naps in the sun.
He likes to be held and enjoys being cuddled.
Belly rubs are very much appreciated.
Astro will sleep in his crate or dog bed if he has to, but he would
really like to sleep in the big bed with his people.
Astro
needs a home that is all on one level with no stairs and just a step or two that
can be easily ramped to make it easy for him to navigate in and out the door.
He has old dog eyes and can easily fall down the stairs.
He appears to be a little hard of hearing, or perhaps has decided to have
“dachshund selective hearing” as he does not always come when called.
If
you are looking for a mellow dog to keep you company and help you enjoy retired
life, then Astro is ready and able to take the job.
He is a good eater and could actually stand to gain a pound or two.
He is safe with children over 5 years old, but we have no idea how he
feels about cats. He is quite friendly with the other rescue dogs in his foster
home and has not demonstrated any negative behavior, even toward to bigger Lab
mix in residence. He's an all round good guy.
Astro’s
vaccines are up-to-date and he has had a full dental cleaning.
He gives very sweet kisses now.
If you are interested in Astro, please

is required. Retirees are encouraged to apply. Astro is a very easy dog.

Name:
Sophie
Age: 8 years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size: Tweenie – 12 lbs.
When we rescued Sophie from the Merced County shelter, you’ll
excuse the expression, she was “sick as a dog”.
She spent a week in the vet hospital getting over pneumonia.
She was a very cooperative patient and she was a favorite of the vet
hospital staff. They were very happy
for her when she was ready to go to her new foster home.
Sophie is very mellow. She enjoys leisurely walks around the neighborhood, exploring the back yard, and just hanging out wherever her person happens to be. She is curious about new things and gets along with the other dogs in her foster home. She loves to snuggle under her blankets in her crate.
Sophie
is crate trained and is receiving a refresher course in house training.
She is doing very well as long as she has access to the dog door and is
encouraged to go outside several times a day.
She responds well to praise and treats.
Sophie needs a family that is willing to continue taking her outside on a
schedule so she can continue to develop good potty habits.
Sophie
is good with gentle children over 5 years old.
We don’t know if she likes cats. She
does not need a companion dog if her family is home much of time and can give
her attention. She’d love to be a
little princess “only dog”. She
is not an excessive barker, but does bark when someone comes to the door.
It’s her job, ask her, she’ll tell you!
Sophie’s
vaccines are up-to-date, she’s had a thorough dental cleaning, and she’s
been microchipped. If you have a

they are for the love and attention bestowed on them.

Revised information

Name: Harold
Age: 4 years
Color: Black & Tan Dapple
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Mini – 12 lbs.
Harold is
a very long, beautiful, black and tan dapple boy with a very majestic look and
excellent lines.
When Harold first
arrived at his foster home, he was very, very skinny and emaciated, like a
walking skeleton. His ears were all
scared up by being bitten in a street fight or maybe at the shelter, but most
likely the street. We don't know how
long he was on the street. We think
he is about 4 years old. He is
yearning for human affection and just wants to be with his people, in their laps
as much as possible. He obviously did not have much
of a puppyhood. He has now
discovered toys. He loves squeaky toys. He is very smart and knows the
dog door.
Adopters need to be dog-savvy and will need to go slow as he can be defensive
and may snap if he misinterprets your intentions.
To be on the safe side, he should not be in a home with young children.
Harold will do well either as an only dog
or with a non alpha female. He is a
young, but mature, dog with no separation anxiety.
He does love to explore a yard, but it does not have to be a big yard.
He has lots of energy during the day and sleeps soundly at night.
He loves his squeaky toys. He
is very smart and easily trainable as he wants to please his owners.
Retirees
are encouraged to apply.
Harold’s vaccinations are all up-to-date and he’s been microchipped. If you are interested Harold, please contact Ralph at ottorig3@gmail.com . An adoption application is required.

Name:
Snoopy
Age: 7 years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie - 16 lbs.
When
Snoopy’s back went out back in August of 2007, his dad did the best thing he
could do – he brought Snoopy to the vet for surgery. After surgery, Snoopy
required more attention than his dad had time for.
He was not getting the proper physical therapy needed to recover from the
extensive surgery, so his dad opted to have him put to sleep.
Instead, the doctors and staff at the vet’s office banned together and
found our rescue group to take Snoopy under our protection.
Snoopy was
subsequently adopted in early 2008 by a wonderful family.
They continued Snoopy’s physical therapy and good care.
The good news is that Snoopy no longer needs to use his cart.
He can now navigate totally on his own, although his gate is stiff and he
wobbles a bit. He is no longer
paralyzed. Snoopy has recovered
about 80% of his bodily functions and takes PPA to help his bladder muscles to
learn to work properly again. He
wears a belly band indoors to protect the floor and carpet in case of an
accident.
The bad news
is that this family has just lost their home to foreclosure and Snoopy is back
with rescue hoping to find another great home.
Snoopy enjoys walks, going camping, and having adventures at the river.
Snoopy’s former family says he is loving, affectionate and he has the
cutest personality. They think he is
very handsome. He has droopy puppy
eyes, a long schnoz, adorable paws and ears, with a knockwurst shaped body that
make him the cutest pup around. (Snoopy
is on a weight reducing diet now as he was loved a bit too much in his former
home.
Snoopy is
crate-trained and tries his best to be house trained.
He knows the dog door. His
only bad habit is that sometimes he gets lazy, and doesn’t want to go outside
to poop, especially when it’s cold or rainy. (Most
dachshunds don’t like to potty outside in the rain.)
If you've ever
had a special-needs pet, you already know that caring for Snoopy will be well
worth your time and effort. Anyone
who takes Snoopy into their family will be blessed with a loving, affectionate
dachshund who will return their love a hundred fold. A retiree or someone who
works from home would be ideal for Snoopy. No
young children, but teens would be OK. We
don’t know if he is cat-safe, but he can’t run fast enough to be a threat to
any active cat.
Snoopy
needs a home that is all on one level with no stairs and just a step or
two that can be easily ramped to make it safer
for him to navigate in and out the door. He
cannot do stairs at all.
Snoopy's adoption fee is a modest tax-deductible donation to rescue.

Name: Chappie
Age: 9 Years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Mini – 13 lbs.
For nine years, Chappie was the beloved pet of a family of four. A
few months ago, everything changed when his family lost their home. They
searched for pet-friendly housing, but couldn’t find it. When they had
exhausted every option, they reluctantly brought Chappie to Rescue to find him a
new home. They were heartbroken.
Chappie is a delightful lad! He might be nine years old and have a
little grey on his paws and face, but he is as peppy and active as a
five-year-old. Toys are his life: he will collect them from around the house,
pile them up and sit on them like a dragon guarding his horde. He’ll chase a
toy, but like many dachshunds, he isn’t that great about bringing it back.
He loves to go for walks and explore the backyard. He especially
enjoys helping his foster mom with the gardening. When the work is done and
it’s time to relax, he curls into a little ball in a doggie bed near his
foster mom’s feet and takes a nap. He is utterly devoted to her and would slay
a monster for her.
Chappie is very easy to have around. During the day, he’s his
foster mom’s shadow; at night, he insists on sleeping in the big bed, cuddled
close. He really loves people and wants to be with them all the time. He would
not do well in a home where people work a lot. His ideal home would be with
someone who adores the older doxies and understands the type of home they
desire: good food, lots of love and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
Chappie gets along well with all the other doxies in his foster
home, and he seems to be okay with dog-friendly cats, although his new people
will need to do a careful introduction. He could be an only dog from or live
with a doxie girl around his age. He has lived with children his whole life, but
he’s older now and would probably be happiest living with older children or in
a home where grandchildren visit.
Chappie has one fault: He can be nippy with adults he doesn’t
know. He has improved a lot in this area, but his new people will need to be a
little careful for the first 15 minutes or so after new people arrive. He
does not do this with children, only adult strangers visiting the house.
This issue is easily remedied, though, by holding Chappie or crating him when
new people arrive. Once he’s comfortable with a visitor, he begs for pets or
lap time.
Neutered, vaccinated, housetrained and very healthy, Chappie is
looking forward to meeting his new people. If you would like to meet him, please
email Tamar at tamar@crankyeditor.com.
An adoption application is
required.
The tax-deductible
donation
for Chappie is $150.00.

There were no family members to take him, so he ended up in rescue.
He has been in a foster home for almost two years, waiting for that
special someone to want to adopt him.
Oskar
is an absolute sweetheart! He gets
along with other dogs, but can be someone’s “one and only” boy. He’s a
bit of a loner. He likes to cuddle
in the big bed, but will sleep in his little dog bed if necessary. He
will not get up on the furniture uninvited.
You will have to pick him up to sit with you on the sofa or your favorite
easy chair. He is fine with visiting
grandchildren over 8 years old if they are gentle and kind.
He has never so much as growled at anyone, canine or human.
He is very quiet and only gets excited at dinnertime or for his favorite
treat – a baby carrot.
Oskar
is reliably house trained and dog-door savvy.
He’s healthy and all his vaccines are current.
He enjoys exploring the back yard, sunbathing, good food, and long naps.
He is a very mellow fellow and just right for someone who is retired or
works from home. He is not demanding

This dog is being fostered in
the
Name: Mikey
Age: 14 years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie
Mikey’s owner
ended up in the hospital for an extended time, and no one in her family wanted
to take on an older dog, so he ended up being turned over to rescue. Mikey
is almost completely blind and starting to go deaf probably from old-age, but he
still navigates just fine once he learns the layout of the house.
Before coming to
rescue, Mikey lived outside on a ranch. A
few years ago, he was kicked by a horse, resulting in one side of his face being
paralyzed (much like a stroke victim), so that one eye doesn't close all the
way. Mikey is still able to eat and drink just fine though, and being an
older guy with some "old age" issues doesn't seem to slow him down in
the least. Mikey LOVES to chew on bones and is an absolute chow hound.
When Mikey came
into rescue, he weighed over 17 pounds. He's
now on a strict diet to help him trim down. Mikey tends to have a bit of a
delicate tummy, so a simple diet of lamb and rice dog food is all he really
needs to be happy - too many treats and his poor little tummy gets very upset.
Mikey is
potty-pad trained and we're working on his house training - since he was an
“outdoor only” dog before, he got used to going potty wherever he felt like
it, but he's doing really well with the potty pads and is learning to bark when
he needs to go outside. Mikey will
need to have a dental cleaning done within the next year - he had one a year
ago, but you know how those doxie teeth can be.
Mikey gets along
great with other dogs and is also fine with cats, but he just really wants a
nice warm lap to curl up in and a person to cuddle with.
He's a huge snuggle-bug and would make a great dog for an senior citizen
looking for a companion who's not too active, but still has plenty of good years
left.
If you are

Name: Sister |
Name: Brother |
Given to Rescue after their owner died, Brother and Sister are a
very sad reminder of what happens when unqualified people breed their dogs. The
offspring of two littermates, Brother and Sister were born with serious
congenital defects. After several tests, our vet thinks their spinal cords never
developed properly. Brother and Sister cannot raise their heads more than about
12” from the ground and their brains don’t know how to feel sensation in
their feet, which means they both have a very difficult time walking. They’re
okay on carpet or grass, but without that traction they fall over when they try
to move. In addition, Brother has neurological problems that present in the form
of difficulty communicating and a mild case of epilepsy, which is effectively
controlled by Phenobarbital (very inexpensive). As if all these problems
weren’t enough, Brother and Sister were bred together, too. How can people do
things like this? We don’t understand.
Some people might think that these doxies aren’t worth saving or
that they have such a poor quality of life that it would be better to have them
humanely euthanized. After spending some time getting to know them, we think
otherwise. We’ve seen that even though they have physical limitations, Brother
and Sister really enjoy their lives. They remind us of people with developmental
disabilities—their bodies and minds may not work like everyone else’s, but
their spirits are filled with love. We don’t think it’s time for them to
leave this world.
We don’t think either dog knows anything is wrong with them.
Brother
greets his foster mom and dad with a wagging tail and particularly enjoys being
near his foster dad.
He loves to be held and scratched on his neck—he
makes the funniest faces when we find his “sweet spot”! Sister follows her
foster mom around all day, getting around as best she can. If her foster mom
steps out of view even for a moment, Sister does a happy dance when she sees her
again. A sweet, slightly silly girl, Sister likes to carry a stuffed toy in her
mouth. When the other dogs get noisy and too boisterous, she schools them on
proper behavior. She’s quite a character. They both love to sunbathe in the
back yard, and Brother can even make it back inside sometimes. Sister prefers to
wait until someone carries her inside. She’s a bit of a princess.
Despite their physical limitations, Brother and Sister are very easy
to have around. They enjoy curling up together in a big dog bed or watching the
other doxies run around and play. In addition to being spayed/neutered and
current on their vaccinations, they are housetrained and very good at holding it
until they are taken outside. They cannot navigate the dog door, so they need to
be carried outdoors three or four times a day to do their business. They sleep
peacefully in their crate at night, but they would also enjoy sleeping in the
big bed with their person—they love to cuddle and snuggle.
Unfortunately, we have recently discovered that Brother can be very aggressive with strangers. If someone he doesn't trust tries to pick him up, he will bite. Fortunately, this problem is easily resolved by crating Brother when people visit. He won't mind, and his people won't have to worry. He is safe with his owners, but they will need to take the time to get to know him and gain his trust before they can safely handle him. He also seems to recognize frequent visitors and is fine with them, too. Sister is perfectly happy to meet anyone, anytime and is safe with all visitors and family members.
For the right person, these two dogs will be the perfect companions,
but it’s going to take a long time and a lot of work before we find that
person. They are a bonded pair, and they cannot be separated. We will only place
them together.

Name: Scooter-Boy
Age:
8 years
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Mini – 11 lbs.
Scooter lost his home when his family’s house went into foreclosure.
Efforts to secure affordable, pet-friendly housing failed.
The family was forced to move and Scooter came to stay with us.
Unfortunately, Scooter was an “only dog” all his life and really does not
want a friend anymore. We tried
placing him in a foster home with two other (elderly) dachshunds, and Scooter
wanted no part of them. He was
friendly and loving toward the people in the household, but was aggressive
toward both elderly doxie ladies.
So, Scooter now finds himself boarded at the vet’s office until we can find an
“only dog” home for him. All of our
current foster homes have other dogs in them.
Scooter loves to be picked up, held, and cuddled.
He enjoys sitting on the sofa while the family watches television.
He prefers to sleep in his little dog bed next to the big bed.
He likes to lie by your feet or nearby while you work at the computer,
content to just be in the same room with someone he can watch over.
He loves going for walks and is
a good little car passenger. He
loves being outside in the back yard, exploring, basking in the sun, or just
sitting on the patio keeping an eye on things.
Scooter is very good with older children (teens).
He does not like other dogs or cats.
Scooter is healthy and his vaccines are right up-to-date.
He is definitely not an apartment dog.
He is a great watch dog, and all the noises of other people coming and
going from their apartments at all hours of the day or night cause too much
unnecessary barking on his part.
Scooter also needs a fenced back yard with dog-door access to continue his good
potty habits as well.
Scooter would be great with retirees who want a lap dog or little buddy to help
them get up off the couch and go out for a walk.
(People need walks too, not just dogs.) If
you are interested in Scooter, please contact
Dena via

The

Name: Candyman
Age: 12 years
Color: Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie - 15 lbs.
We rescued Candyman from the Baldwin Park shelter in May.
He was dumped by his family of 12 years without any reason given.
There was a great outpouring of shock and dismay from the rescue
community when his picture appeared on the shelter website, and we decided that
this wonderful senior deserved better than what life had just given him.
The reward for his twelve years of family loyalty and devotion was to be
dumped like yesterday’s newspaper. To
add insult to injury, he was labeled a female by the shelter.
Imagine our surprise, after we got him home to discover when picked up
and held like a baby that “she” had male plumbing!
Candyman is the perfect doxie for someone who works from home or is a retired
lady or gentleman who desires the love and companionship of a loving senior dog.
Candyman is in good health, vaccines are up to date, and he has been
microchipped. His fur is soft and
silky. He loves his belly rubbed
and ears massaged. He is house
trained, crate trained, and he knows the dog door.
He loves to go for walks and enjoys riding in the car.
Respectful, children over 5 years old would be OK with Candyman.
We don’t know if he likes cats.
An extremely handsome boy, Candyman is very loving and devoted.
He wants to be in your lap or by your
side as much as possible. Candyman
needs a home that is all on one level with no stairs and just a step or two that
can be easily ramped to make it easy for him to navigate in and out the door.
He cannot do stairs at all because he has very short legs and a long
body. At his age, stairs are just
out of the question.
Candyman is especially fond of men. If
you are interested in Candyman, please contact
Dena via

(562) 694-6868.
An
adoption application is required.
The adoption fee for Candyman is only a modest

Isabella & Tan
Coat:
Wirehair
Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Mini – 10 lbs.
We
don’t know why Clara ended up in a high-kill shelter, but when we saw her there,
we had to bail her out and get her into a foster home.
Clara was rescued in mid-July.
Not much is known about her background,
but it is suspected she has had several litters of puppies, although she is
relatively young. She may have been
used for breeding as she was a novice on the leash.
In foster care, she has learned the joy of a walk.
Clara is crate trained and reliably house-trained.
She is comfortable mingling with the other dogs in her foster home.
She is friendly to people and strange dogs that she encounters on her
short walks. She barks at the cat
in the elevated kitty condo – but she has not been “cat tested” at ground level.
Fair to say she is presently not safe around the kitties.
Clara is very healthy. She’s spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped.
She has even had a dental cleaning so her smile is very sweet.

Name:
Mikey
Age: 1 year
Color: Black & Tan Dapple
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie – 13 lbs.
We rescued Mikey from the Pasadena SPCA.
They called us about a doxie that was very skittish and did not pass
their temperament test. Mikey was
very frightened when we brought him to his new foster home.
We kept a leash on him for three days so we could get him back
into the house once he went outside. He
behaved like he had been mistreated and was never allowed indoors.
He was a challenge.
After a few days in this very experienced foster home, he calmed down
a lot and began to open up. He no
longer needed to have a leash on, because he now went in and out on his own,
following his foster brothers and sisters as they went about their daily
routines of eating, playing, napping, and getting love from their foster
parents. Mikey learned that people
can be very nice and give huggies and belly rubs as well as really yummy food.
An extremely handsome boy, Mikey has become loving and affectionate with his foster mom. We are still working on his relationship with the foster dad. Mikey will bark at him when he enters the room, but that’s about all he does. As time goes by, even that reaction is diminishing. He gets along well with other dogs, but he must eat in his crate as he eats with lightning speed and then will try to steal the other dog's food. We believe he had to share a community food dish in his former home, and he did not get enough to eat. He would be happiest in a quiet home with a person who works part time or from home. Please, no young children for Mikey. Teens would be OK, especially girls. He would also very much enjoy having a mellow female dachshund for companionship and to mentor him. Mikey would be happiest in a home with women only. He tolerates a man around, but much prefers the company of women.
Mikey’s
vaccines are up-to-date and he has been microchipped.
In our opinion, he is a diamond in the rough. If
you are interested in Mikey, and have the experience of working with formerly abused
or neglected dogs, please
contact Dena via email

694-6868. An adoption application
is required.

Name: Penny
Age: 1 year
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Tweenie
- 15 lbs.
Penny was relinquished to Dachshund Rescue because her family could no longer
keep her in their apartment.
Penny was very shy at first in her foster home, but is now on my lap as I am
writing this bio. She's a sweet, gentle
and loving girl who likes nothing better than snuggling and getting belly rubs.
Penny is also playful and romps with her
buddy Otto, another of our foster dogs. She
gets along extremely well with all the other dogs in her foster home.
Penny likes to tug on a rope toy with
you and will retrieve it when tossed. She
loves to play with squeaky toys. Penny
walks well on a leash and comes when called.
Penny likes children and gravitates to be near them whenever she can.
Penny's former family had an infant and
Penny would 'kiss the baby' on command by licking the baby's face.
Based on what we've observed, we think
Penny will do well in a home with children. She
will need a day or two to warm up to new people and surroundings.
Penny is house-trained, spayed and up to date on her shots.
She's looking for her forever home.

Name:
Fred ( was Jack)
Age: 11 years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Standard – 24 lbs.
Jack/Fred’s story is a long, sad one that really needs to have a happy ending.
We are going to do our utmost to make sure he gets the “happily ever
after” he so deserves. For some reason known only to him, he has decided not to
answer to the name Jack anymore.
But he does answer to Fred. So, his
foster mom started calling him Fred and he seems to really like it.
When Fred was about two years old, he was adopted from a rescue booth in front
of a PetsMart store. Before long,
the family realized having a dog was a lot more work than the cat they already
had, so Jack was banished to a large back yard with an automatic dog food
dispenser unit and an oversized water bowl.
He was lucky if someone came out there every few days to check to see if
his feeder needed replenishing and to do some “pooper scooping”.
Recently, the family moved to Arizona and they took Fred with them, but again he
was abandoned outside, but this house only had a small cement side patio with
little shade in 100 plus degree heat.
Luckily, a family acquaintance took pity on Jack and offered to take him
off their hands and into her home; an apartment actually.
This young lady contacted rescue and asked that we help find Fred a real
home with people who will love him and not banish him to a life of loneliness
and despair.
While Fred’s history is as a “back yard dog”, he definitely does not fit the
category. He is very affectionate
towards people and has a happy temperament and big smile.
He loves gentle physical play-wrestling with his people, but doesn’t have
much interest in toys. He gets very
excited when food is being served, or treats are at hand, and likes to be "first
in line," but he has not made any attempt to push another aside and take over
their bowl or treat. He is tolerant
of children, but would be best with children over 5 years old.
He loves to go for long walks, and is the most perfect gentleman on a
leash. He is friendly to other
dogs, and he is passive if they are aggressive.
He knows how to “sit” and “shake hands” for treats.
He is house-trained. However,
Fred seems to be selective about which cats he will tolerate.
For the first day or two in foster care, Fred showed some separation anxiety,
probably due to previously being kept exclusively outdoors.
However, it didn’t take long for him to find his place among his foster’s
other dogs and learn to relax with them.
He enjoys sleeping inside, where there is air conditioning, but most of
his waking hours are spent patrolling the backyard.
His “perfect home” would have a yard and a dog door with free access and
maybe a doggie companion.
Fred appears to be in near-perfect health - he can see and smell very well, and
displays the typical doxie selective hearing!
He has no signs of stiffness or arthritis and is very active.
Fred’s vaccines are up-to-date.
He has had his teeth cleaned and polished.
In our opinion, he is a treasure, a real jewel.
If you can give Fred his “happily ever after”, please contact
Dena via
email or call (562) 694-6868.
An
adoption
application is required. Retirees
are encouraged to apply for Fred.
He is a wonderful companion.

This dog is being fostered in the San Francisco area.
Name: Sweet Pea
Age: 13 months
Color: Red Sable
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size:
Micro Mini – 6.5 lbs.
Sweet Pea has packed a lot into only 13 months of living.
She
was originally owned by a family that let their Rottweiler play way too rough
with her.
For
safety reasons, a pregnant Sweet Pea was taken in by a family friend.
(Her
first family had let her get pregnant during her first heat, poor baby).
Once her puppies were placed, Sweet Pea’s new owners were not able to keep her,
so she was surrendered to rescue.
Sweet Pea is a tiny little thing.
She probably has a dash of Chihuahua in her ancestry, but in California in 2010,
who doesn’t?
She
is extremely cuddly and loving.
Sweet
as she is, she also has an impish side.
When she is bored, she will start to do things like start barking at the
sleeping senior
pit bull in her foster home.
She
will also do this same thing with cats.
(We don’t think she would try and hurt them.)
If
Sweet Pea is given walks and daily exercise, she doesn’t create her own
excitement.
Sweet Pea hates being anywhere other than with her human, but when she is left
alone, she settles down very quickly.
She likes playing with frisky dogs, so we think she would enjoy a playful canine
sibling.
Sweet
Pea happily shares her food bowl and her toys with the other dogs.
Sweet Pea is pretty adamant about sleeping in the big bed.
With
encouragement, she has made excellent progress on her housebreaking.
We
think she would do well in a home with children 8 years old and up or in an
“adults only” home. (It’s not that she has issues with toddlers and very young
children, but that
she is so tiny, she is really not sturdy enough for them.)
She
would be a fantastic dog to take to a dog-friendly work environment as she is so
people and dog friendly.
Sweet Pea is now spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations.
If you are interested in adopting Sweet Pea, please fill out an
application
and email Lindy at

Dexter’s foster mom writes:
“He
is one busy boy who can squeeze through just about any small opening.
He is doing pretty good with his
housetraining- especially for a 5 month old pup.
He can use the doggy door and likes to come in and out of the house over
and over again.
He loves to play with the other dogs and loves to play fetch with the stuffed
"babies". He loves to curl up on your
lap and likes to know where we are at all times.
He really should go to a home with other dog playmates or he will be
lonely, bored and probably get into trouble. He
is smart and understands the word NO. He sleeps in his crate and is just
adorable.”

What a beauty sweet Amos is!! He
is a totally gorgeous, sleek and shiny, black and tan, purebred.

Name:
Tyler
Age: 7
months
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Mini
We
rescued Tyler from a shelter in San Diego County.
He was turned in by a family that complained he cried and howled
constantly. Neighbors complained to
the condo association. The family
left him alone for more than 8 hours every day without anyone to check on him or
another dog for company. Hello!
What did they expect a baby dog to do?
Tyler is very energetic, friendly, outgoing, affectionate, mischievous, curious, and silly; all with that puppy enthusiasm for life. He does not howl or cry in his foster home. There are too many things going on that need his attention. The other dogs are helping him learn the dog door, to chase a ball, play tug-o-war, and his favorite game – “Wrestle Mania”.
Tyler is house trained, uses the doggie door like a pro, and does not have any
"accidents" in the house. Tyler sleeps the night in his crate, sometimes with a
foster sibling, other times alone, and he does not mind one bit.
Tyler is very strong willed, and will try to be the boss of everyone, so his new
family must be Dachshund-savvy. Tyler would like a home with another playful,
young dog for fun and games. He is crate trained, but prefers to sleep in
the big bed under the covers with his person. He loves to be held and
cuddled, resting his chin on your shoulder.
Tyler
is very healthy, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

Name: Pablo
Age: 7 months
Color: Cream & White
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Possible Tweenie –
10 lbs.
Pablo was found stray when he was barely 8 weeks old.
The people who found him put up signs and ran ads under “found animals”
in local papers, but no one called to claim him.
After three weeks, they gave up hope of finding his people and asked
their vet to help find him a home. Their vet is our too, so our vet asked
us to find him a home of his own.
We happily agreed.
Pablo is an adorable doxie mix.
What he is mixed with is anybody’s guess, probably Beagle.
He has short legs, long body, long ears, and he thinks he’s a dachshund.
He is just so sweet. He
loves to be held like a baby and kissed, returning affection tenfold.
He has striking hazel eyes and a wonderful chocolate nose.
He is crate trained and he is 90% house trained.
He is quiet and gentle with everyone, enjoying cuddling and belly rubs
while watching TV. He would love to
have a couple of gentle children to love and spoil him.
Pablo is still learning how to walk on a leash, but he likes car rides if they
are not too long. He is too young
to go to the dog park. He is
healthy, and now is fully vaccinated.
We don't know if he is safe with cats, but he has not been exposed to any
so he is probably fine with them too.
Pablo would be the hit of the
neighborhood; that is how sweet he is.
Pablo has been in his foster home for about three months now. He has become a
very handsome boy who is good natured and very loving. He has a lot of energy,
loves a good chase around the yard, and tug of war, as well as playing quietly
by himself with a chew toy or a stuffed animal. Pablo is crate trained, sleeps
all night long, gets along with every new or old dog he meets, is very reliably
house trained, a good eater, and rarely barks. He loves car rides and walks well
on a leash. Pablo would be an excellent boy with young children, he should have
another dog to play with, and longs for the day he can call his new family his
own.
He has had all his shots, and he's been neutered and microchipped.
Do you have room in your heart and home for Pablo?
He wants to be the lucky one to go to a new home next. He has seen many
of his foster siblings get new homes, and cannot wait for that to happen to him.

Transport to other areas of California is available for Sam.
Name:
Sam
Age: 7 ½ years
Color: Red Sable
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie - 14 lbs.
Sam
is one of those very funny doxies with a great personality. He
was found stray in Modesto and taken to the shelter.
His people never came for him. While
at the shelter, Sam had a medical emergency.
His face swelled up from an infected tooth problem. One
of our rescue volunteers made an emergency trip to Modesto to get Sam so that he
could get immediate vet treatment.
Despite
having a cracked, infected tooth that was hurting, Sam arrived to his foster
home in great spirits. He
immediately ran to his foster mom's daughter and jumped in her lap. Shortly
after that when the child was playing with a ball Sam wanted to join in the fun
so he started chasing after the ball. He
wasn't going to let a tooth problem keep him out of the fun. He isn't so good at
bringing the ball all the way back to his person, but he will drop it a few feet
away. Sam's cracked tooth has been
pulled and he had a minor dental cleaning. He
is now ready to find his forever home.
Sam
is a very friendly boy and seems to really love meeting new people. He
would be good with children over 12 years of age. Sam
does not need another dog for companionship, but he would be fine with a non-alpha
female. He truly adores his people
and he would not like to be separated from them for long periods of time. Recent
retirees or folks who work from home would be ideal.
Have an RV? Sam is ready to
ride shotgun! He would not be
suitable as an apartment or condo dog because he is vocal and likes to talk to
his person and tell them when it is meal time, or when he wants attention from
his person, etc.
Healthy,
fully vaccinated, and microchipped, Sam is ready and waiting for his new family.

has no objection to being hugged, squeezed and petted by all.
He has learned to get along with the
goats and horses, and he seems to have made peace with the cats. He is not safe
with small animals such as birds, bunnies and rodents.
Fritzie has enjoyed playing with all of the other dogs he has met.
He has learned to come when called even
when he is out in some interesting field.
Fritzie wants a home where he continues to get lots of exercise. He would
like having a canine sibling to keep him company.
He likes sleeping on the big bed with
his person.
Fritzie is microchipped, neutered,
and vaccinated. He is housebroken and
crate trained.

This dog is being fostered in the San Francisco area.
Name: Maggie
Age: 3 years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size:
Mini – 11 lbs.
Maggie has been bounced from home to home through no fault of her own. Her first
owner gave her away because she had no time for her.
After a year and a half, this new owner
returned her back to her original owner. The original owner still had no time
for Maggie, so she was surrendered to rescue.
All of this change has left Maggie pretty independent.
She likes people, but she is not at all
clingy. She gets along well with older kids and with cats.
She is happy to share kisses with
people. Maggie is young and she
needs daily exercise. (Just because a dog is little does not mean they don't
need walks!). Maggie adores her walks
and enjoys the dog park. She is living
in an overcrowded foster home and she is doing wonderfully with all the dogs,
even sharing her food bowl. We think
Maggie would enjoy having a canine brother to keep her company.
Because of the instability in Maggie's life, she still does submissive peeing at
times. This is easily handled by
not looming over her to pet her, by giving her time before you pick her up, and
making your comings and goings a “non-event”.
Maggie is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations.
Just look at her big brown eyes - Maggie is a special girl who deserves
to finally find her forever home.
If you are interested in adopting Maggie, please fill out an
application
and email Lindy at
linla@comcast.net.
A home check is also required.
The tax deductible donation for Maggie is $250.00.

Name: Henry
Age: 12 years
Color: Black & Tan Dapple
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Mini – 8 lbs.
Henry was rescued from the Camarillo shelter just after the 4th of July holiday. We had sent our volunteer to the shelter to get another dachshund and they spied Henry sitting quite dignified in a large kennel looking around, probably wondering where his family was. We just could not leave this wonderful senior gentleman behind.
Henry’s foster mom writes:
“Henry
really needs a home with no (or very few) stairs and someone who will help him
get outside. He is very gentle and
easy-going but will probably need arthritis medication for the rest of his life.
He is housebroken as long as you take him outside every few hours, and he
will go right away. If he needs to
go out, he whines and lets you know something is wrong - he needs to go outside!
He gets along fine with other dogs and
actually tries to play at times, but would be fine alone if necessary or with
older, less active dogs.”
Henry’s vaccinations are all up-to-date and he’s been microchipped.
We have no idea if he is safe with cats, but he is really too old to be
any threat to a dog-savvy cat.
Henry’s ideal home would have a retiree who desires the love and devotion of a
small, affectionate dachshund; someone who wants a lap dog and does not mind
sharing the big bed with him. He
loves to cuddle.
If you are interested Henry, please contact Dena via email or call (562) 694-6868. An adoption application is required.
The adoption fee for Henry is a modest tax-deductible donation to SCDR.

Name: Trixie
Age: 7
years
Color: Black & Tan
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Mini – 11 lbs.
Trixie was found stray, sick, dehydrated, and starving out in desert. The lady who found her took her home and gave her food, water, and shelter, but when her vet informed her of the cost to make Trixie well, she contacted rescue, and we took Trixie under our wing. After spending a few days at our vet, Trixie was feeling much, much better. She was now spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She’s had a thorough dental cleaning too.
Trixie gets along with other dogs, but she is an “alpha” personality, so a non-dominant boy-dog companion would be best for her. She welcomes being picked up and held, enjoying the love heaped on her by her foster family. She would not mind being someone’s “one and only” if they were home much of the time or could take her to work with them. She loves going for walks and is happy to ride shotgun in the car with her family.
Trixie is safe with older children (no babies or toddlers). We do not know if she is safe with cats. Trixie is crate trained and is getting a refresher course in house training. She knows how to use a dog door and takes advantage of it consistently. She has not had many indoor potty accidents in her foster home. She uses her bark very sparingly. However, she does consider the postal delivery person and the UPS guy to be mortal enemies along with the weekly gardener/pool guy.
If you can provide a good home for Trixie, please contact Dena via email or call (562) 694-6868. An adoption application is required.
The
tax-deductible donation for Trixie is

Name: Luke
Age:
2
years
Color: Chocolate Piebald
Coat:
Longhair
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Tweenie – 15 lbs.
Imagine his delight when our representative was wandering around the Camarillo shelter and spied this boy! Luke is an absolutely stunning chocolate and tan piebald about 2 years old. His owners surrendered him to the shelter just minutes earlier and he was available immediately. We scooped him up and spirited him straight out of there before anyone else could get him. And boy oh boy, he is as nice as he is handsome.
We are sure that Luke was somebody’s baby.
He wants to be in his person’s lap all the time, sleep in his person’s
bed at night, and he is a love-sponge.
He loves people, the other dogs in his foster home, and he loves table
food. He is learning that dogs eat
kibble and meat, not people’s left-overs.
He’s now on a diet to shed some unnecessary pounds so he can be a 12
pound mini instead of a 15 pound chubby tweenie.
We have no idea if he is safe with cats.
Luke’s vaccinations are all up-to-date and he’s been microchipped.
He’d love a stay-at-home mom or dad, a child over 5 years old, and
another doxie for play and companionship.
Previous experience with a longhaired dachshund is not essential, but
would be a plus. Luke is a
treasure.

Name:
Alfie
Age:
10
years
Color:
Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Mini – 12 lbs.
Alfie was found wandering the
streets of a Central California town. A
family noticed him and not wanting him to be left to fend for himself, they took
him in. They notified the animal
shelter, checked the lost dog ads, and they made and hung posters.
They talked with all of their neighbors and walked Alfie all around the
neighborhood. Alas, no one ever came
looking for this boy.
After a few weeks their landlord
was ready for the dog to move on. Not
wanting to surrender him to the shelter, they brought him to rescue.
We immediately took him to be scanned
for a microchip and were overjoyed when we found he was chipped.
However, the telephone number on the
chip was no longer valid and all of our attempts to contact the owner of record
were fruitless. All we can say is
"Ramon, you lost a great dog! "
Alfie greets everyone with a
wagging tail. He may be a senior, but he
is very frisky and prances through the house and loves playing with the young
dogs. He would be a great
beginner's dachshund and would do well with respectful children over 5 years
old. He's a short little guy that just
oozes charm. We think he could do fine
with apartment living (and he would soon have all the neighbors wrapped around
his chubby little paw). He could also
happily be an RV dog.
Alfie is microchipped, neutered,
and vaccinated. He will need a dental
soon. He is housebroken and crate
trained.
If you are interested in Alfie,

Name: Minnie
Age: 5 years
Color: Dapple & Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size: Micro-Mini – 9 lbs.
A Good Samaritan recently rescued Minnie from the streets of Los Angeles.
The lady posted signs and ran ads in the local papers, but no one came
forward to claim this adorable little doxie mix.
Having several dogs of her own, the lady could not keep Minnie
indefinitely, so she brought her to Rescue to find a new forever home.
Minnie is half dachshund, half maybe Corgi? Your guess is as good as ours.
She looks like a small dachshund with perky ears.
She has all the characteristics of a dachshund, but her ears stand up
like a bunny. She has a lush coat with a
lovely tail. Her teeth are so
white, you’ll need sunglasses to look at them.
We love her adorable dachshund face, her half blue eyes,
and those bunny ears, don’t you?
Minnie is very easy going and gets along very well with other dogs and loves
people. She gets along wonderfully
with other dogs, and is very social.
We haven’t a clue if she is safe around cats.
She has very good house manners.
She does not beg at the table, and she waits her turn for treats and
meals. She is not a dominate dog.
Her foster family says that she’s the
easiest dog they've ever taken care of for us.
She loves going for walks and enjoys car rides.
Minnie is happy to sleep in a little dog bed, wrapped in a fluffy blanket
at the side of the big bed. She
loves to cuddle and snuggle and would not mind being invited to spend the night
in the big bed with you. Minnie
just wants to be loved all the time. She's
extraordinarily friendly.
Minnie is house trained, about as much as any dachshund can be.
She has only had a couple of accidents since coming home from the
shelter. She is crate trained and
goes into her crate voluntarily to enjoy a treat or take a little nap.
Minnie is healthy, has been fully vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested in Minnie, please contact Dena via email or call (562) 694-6868. An adoption application is required.
The tax-deductible donation for Minnie is $200.00.

This doxie is currently fostered in the Fresno area.
Transport to other areas of California is available for Sugar.
Name:
Sugar
Age: 9
years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size: Chubby Tweenie - 25 lbs.
Sugar is just like her name, Sweet as Sugar. When Sugar arrived in rescue she was obese, and she could hardly walk due to her condition. Her toe nails were so long, several were beginning to grow into the pads of her feet. Sugar needed medical attention and she had ticks. Yuck! So her transformation began with a bath, toenail trim, tick removal, and she was started on a serious weight control diet. Within days she was happily beginning to trot around the yard. Sugar lost enough weight that she was able to have her dental this week. She had to have nine teeth pulled.
Sugar loves people and gets along fine with other dogs. We don't know if she is cat-safe. Sugar needs a family who will continue with her weight control diet and who will take her on walks. Sugar loves going for walks and she is very good on a leash. Her walks will have to start out short and build up as she loses weight and builds up stamina. Sugar gets a little nervous on car rides, but she does fine. Once she realizes good things come from rides in the car, she will get over her nervousness.
Sugar is well socialized, so she would probably enjoy having another dog for companionship, but it is not mandatory if her person were home with her much of the time. She would be a perfect dog to take to work with you if your employer allowed it. She would also enjoy the company of respectful children over the age of 5.
We
recently discovered that Sugar would make a wonderful therapy dog.
She accompanied her foster mom to an elementary school as part of a
demonstration for the children to learn about dogs and how to take care of them.
Sugar really enjoyed the visit and the children adored her.

Sugar adores the children and being
petted. Sugar demonstrates how to use
a
muzzle.
Sugar poses with her foster mom and the children.
Sugar
is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots and has recently had a dental, so
she has sweet smelling breath. Sugar
is ready and waiting for her new family. If
you can offer Sugar the home and lifestyle she deserves, please contact Janice
at rplsecr@sbcglobal.net.
An adoption

and a home check are required.

Name:
Bert
Age: 4 years
Color: Mahogany Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie – 15.5
lbs.
Bert
and two other dachshunds were abandoned when their owner was kicked out of the
military and left town. The kind
neighbors fed the dogs until they were taken to the shelter.
Dachshund Rescue jumped at the chance to take these three happy boys in
foster care.
Bert
is a very handsome neutered smooth dark red dachshund.
He loves to nuzzle and snuggle with any family member.
He will be happy with a family with kids and other dogs.
He will not be disappointed to be a special pal to a single person
either.
Bert
is smart, curious and likes to go on adventures.
He also enjoys being a couch potato. Anytime he is missing, he can be
found cuddled up on the couch by himself or with another dachshund.
He seems to be pretty well housebroken but will need careful supervision
at his new home.
Bert is up to date on his vaccinations and has a microchip. Bert recently "tweeked" his back, nothing really serious, but we took it as a warning. Bert recovered very quickly with meds and crate-rest. His new home needs to be all on one level, with just a step or two that could be easily ramped. Bert needs to be taught not to jump off furniture, but to "wait" to be placed on the floor by his family member. No upstairs apartments or condos, or bedrooms upstairs. Bert can no longer go up and down a flight of stairs.
Take a look at his big brown eyes and your heart will melt.
If you are interested in Bert, please contact Dena via email

Sex:
Female/Spayed
Size:
Tweenie – 16 lbs.
To her credit, Daisy is very loving and affectionate with her foster mom, and is delighted to meet other ladies as well. She is not very trusting of men yet, but we are working on that too. Daisy would be happiest in a quiet home with a single lady or ladies, no other pets, with a nice back yard where she can run and play with her tennis ball. Daisy is a ball playing fool. If you don’t have time to throw the ball for her, it’s no problem. She will toss it in the air herself, catch it, roll around on her back while holding her ball, and just totally immerse herself in loving her ball. She can be very entertaining.
Daisy’s vaccines are up-to-date and she is microchipped.

Name: Sampson
Age: 13 years
Color: Red
Coat:
Smooth
Sex:
Male/Neutered
Size:
Standard - 20 lbs.
We rescued Sampson and his father two years ago.
The boys were getting along very well
and were quite bonded until recently.
For reasons known only to the dogs, things have changed.
Sampson no longer tolerates his father or the other doxies in
his home and is very unhappy. He
wants to be “only dog” and/or “top dog”, and having his father around is not
tolerable anymore. Added to the
problem is that the family has to move from a home with a large yard to a condo
with a small fenced in patio instead, and you can see that the boys will have
nowhere to go to get away from each other.
So Sampson is looking for a home of his very own where he won’t have to
share his bed, his blanket, toys, and his person’s attention.
Sampson is the perfect doxie for a retired lady or gentleman who desires the
love and companionship of a loving senior dog.
Sampson is in good health, vaccines are up to date, and he has had
regular dental care and cleanings.
His fur is soft like velvet and he loves his belly rubbed and ears massaged.
He is totally and reliably house trained, and he is dog door savvy.
He loves to go for walks and enjoys riding in the car.
He needs a home where he will be the center of his person’s universe.
No kids, no cats, and the only dogs he wants to meet are the ones along
his daily walks.
Sampson is a treasure. If you are interested in Sampson, please
contact Dena via

Name: Lala
Age:
6
years
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Female/Spayed
Size: Micro-mini – 8 lbs
Beautiful,
tiny Lala has not had a very stable home life in her six short years.
Dumped at her vet’s office by her original owners when she needed back
surgery, she was taken in by a rescue group who paid for the surgery and
arranged for a wonderful foster home for her where she got much-needed
post-surgery rehabilitation. She was
then adopted to a family who realized after some time that they were unable to
keep her.
All
of this change and upheaval has made Lala a very independent dog who can take
care of herself, thank you very much. She
is very happy to burrow under a blanket or perch on the edge of the couch on her
own and calmly take in the scenery. She
is not a needy dog; she is happy to be around her foster mom but doesn’t
follow her everywhere nor does she need much cuddling.
She loves her bed in her crate and would likely sleep there all day if
she could (her foster mom lets her sleep in it at night but prefers her to be
“social” with the other dogs in the home and her foster mom during waking
hours).
Lala
can be possessive of her person and needs a careful introduction to new people.
She is not a dog you would want to take everywhere with you nor would she
be good in a home with lots of people coming and going.
We do not recommend her for a family with children under 10 years old.
Lala is very good with the other dogs in her foster home but is a bit
food possessive and will give her foster brothers and sisters a serious “what
for” if they should dare get too close at meal time.
She is not good with cats.
Lala’s
back is completely healed but she walks with a slight wobble (likely a
congenital problem that has nothing to do with her back).
Her new people would have to be committed to keeping her trim and fit and
never allow her to run up and down stairs or jump on and off furniture.
Lala
is 100% housetrained, as far as we can tell.
Her foster home has a dog door to the back yard and she reliably goes
outside to potty. We think she would
do fine in a condo. or an apartment, as long as she had regular exercise (not
just out the front door a few feet to potty) and we would prefer her to have a
small dog companion if her people were gone all day.
Because she is so tiny, Lala cannot live in a home where there are any
predatory animals (hawks, coyotes, snakes, etc.) nearby.
Spayed, vaccinated and 100% housetrained, Lala is longing to be
someone’s special companion. If you think that’s you, please email Stephanie
at doxaholic@yahoo.com . An adoption
application is required.
The
tax-deductible

for Lala is $225.

Rescue, we jumped at the chance to help this little girl find a home of her own.
Jada is a tiny jet-black, wirehair, mini dachshund who weighs a mere 8 pounds.
She has a great personality and will be a nice family dog.
She is only 18 months old and was raised in a family with lots of kids.
She gets along well with other dogs and even likes cats.

foster mom was never too interested in wirehair dachshunds, but now she is a big

be a plus.
Jada is very calm, friendly and loves to play.
She is house trained and is learning to enjoy walking on a leash.
Jada is up to date on vaccinations and she is scheduled to be spayed on
July 20. We are accepting
