Twinkie

Twinkie is a sweet mini-dachshund/terrier mix that we saved from the Los Angeles East Valley Shelter. She was picked up stray on the streets with her left eye so badly injured, the shelter vet had to do surgery and remove it. She was at the shelter for days and days, with no one interested in her, until Sharon Olan, a volunteer for Southern California Dachshund Rescue, bailed her out. It did not take very long for us to find her a "perfect" home with a boy of her very own.

From Jeannine:

Dear Dena,

Thanks for the pictures of Twinkie. Tommy said it was 'one of the best days of my life'. Now he has a photo to remind him of the day. Twinkie has been renamed 'Rosie'. Tommy went through a lot of names...Liberty ('Libby'), Chica, and Ruby. He had decided on 'Hope' by the time we got home. None of them seemed to quite fit until Tommy came up with Rosie. She's already responding to it. What a smart girl!!!!!

She's the new belle of the neighborhood. All the kids have been by to meet her and she's taken to all the attention just fine. She runs to the door when she hears someone coming up the walk. We've taken her around the block several times and she holds her tail straight up like an antenna for the whole walk. We're going to hold off on the dog park for a few weeks though.

Bandit [a Golden/Dobie mix] has his nose out of joint right now, but I think he's getting used to her. She does all the submissive stuff but he's still not liking that it's "all about Rosie'" right now. No growling or confrontation, which is good. All in all, Rosie seems to be happy here. She's hesitant to go outside on her own, but she's venturing a little deeper into the back yard every day.

Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives. She's such a sweetie. Let's hope this is where the 'happily ever after' part starts for her.

Best Wishes, Jeannine
