Princess

"I have good news!" I wrote to Susan who gave up her Princess for adoption, because her other dogs (several Chihuahuas) were making Princess very unhappy. Susan had rescued Princess from a shelter in Los Angeles several months earlier. Princess was quite a curmudgeon when she arrived at my home and did not like people very much, but she did take a liking to my husband, so he became her care-giver during her stay with us.
"Princess was adopted yesterday by a lovely single lady named Kathy. Princess liked Kathy right away. Kathy is very intuitive with animals. The meeting at my house went well. Princess had on her best company manners and even gave Kathy a welcoming kiss. When all the paperwork was done, I put the leash on Princess and she ran to the door ready to go on her great adventure.
Kathy called me last night and again this morning to make a full report. . . . "

Princess (now Schatzie)
Report from Kathy:
First, Princess told me that her real name is Schatzie. So, she now comes when called and reacts with a happy face and wagging tail when hearing her name. She never did respond well to Princess. [Schatzie means sweetheart in German.]
Upon arriving home, Schatzie got out of the car and headed straight to the yard to relieve herself, then went straight to the back door like she's always lived here and waited impatiently for me to open the door for her. Next, she explored every nook and cranny of the house with a very happy face and wagging tail. That afternoon, I took Schatzie to visit a friend in Burbank, and Schatzie behaved very well even allowing the new friends to pet her. When we got back home, I prepared her dinner. Then we watched a little television. When it was time to retire for night, Schatzie got into her little bed and I covered her with a blanket.
I am an early riser, and Schatzie seems to be fine with that. She promptly headed for the back door and went outside to do her morning constitutional and then ate her breakfast. Today we are going to visit my next-door neighbor, a lovely gentleman who is going to take Schatzie for a walk every day at noon while I am at work.
I want to thank Susan for being so unselfish and letting this precious little girl have a third chance for a happy life. Now that Schatzie is an "only dog", she is very happy.
And thank you, Dena, for finding this precious girl for me.
On the evening of June 28, 2002, Kathy tearfully called me on the telephone to tell me that Princess/Schatzie passed over to The Rainbow Bridge that afternoon. I am grateful to Kathy for making Schatzie's final days happy and full of love. Though their time together was a lot shorter than any of us would have liked, the quality of the time was priceless. This precious little girl has left pawprints on my heart.
